For almost the past two months, I’ve been off school and honestly, it is SO difficult not to nap all day. Coming from someone that needs twelve hours of sleep, I understand the struggles of getting things done without being lazy.
These are three things I do that help me stay focused and energized to get my work done:
- Wake up at the same time every day- I know, I know, easier said than done but trust me, nothing screams SCHEDULE like waking up at the same time each day. It almost puts my body in a routine where I know exactly what I need to get done at what hour of the day. Also, having a regular sleep schedule means a healthy body, mind and spirit because you’re getting all the necessary rest your body needs to feel rejuvenated and refreshed.
- Take breaks- It’s easy to just get caught up in work and forget to take a breather. Sometimes, I’ll spend hours on my laptop without noticing that I haven’t ate or gone outside all day. In my opinion, this limits creativity and the ability to concentrate. Lately, I have been setting time restraints such as making sure I focus for an hour and then grabbing a snack or playing with my pup for a few minutes before returning to my task. It is also good to look away from a screen if you’re someone like me that transitions from looking at a computer to a phone.
- Change of setting- I find it so difficult to be in one room all day. That’s why I love to switch up where I’m working. Whether it be a coffee shop or just moving from my room to my backyard, I find the power of change of space to be very beneficial. Also, working in your bedroom tends to make people lazy since your mind associates your room as a space to relax and sleep. Some people however, are immune to this and can work perfectly fine in their bedroom. For myself however, I find it super helpful to switch up my setting. It also increases my creativity as I believe each space has its own vibe- that changes the way you feel and in turn, do your work.
Well, there you have it! Just some tidbits on how I stay focused and get stuff done while at home. Oh and also, chocolate helps a lot too. And caffeine.
Chocolate helps everything! Thanks for following my blog.
